We believe Aotearoa New Zealand should be a place where everyone can afford public transport. We are concerned that the Government is trying to increase the ‘private share funding targets’ for public transport which will require public transport authorities to significantly increase fares – often against their wishes – to meet those targets. This could add pressure for people, especially those most affected by transport poverty.
Over 6000 people signed our petition against fare hikes. On 28 April 2025 we submitted our written submission to the Petitions Committee, supporting this petition.
Read the submission to the Petitions Committee.
It has since been transferred to the Transport and Infrastructure Committee for their consideration.
